Why the cheapest quote is the one to check hardest
A quote well above the others isn't automatically a rip-off — it might be the only one that priced the job properly. But a quote well below the others is rarely a bargain. Usually one of three things is true: something has been left out and you'll pay for it later as a variation, the materials are a step down from what the others quoted, or the person hasn't understood the scope.
None of those are reasons to reject it outright. They're reasons to ask. The questions this tool generates are the ones that turn a suspiciously cheap quote into either a genuine saving or an obvious problem.
